New Mexico state law requires anyone planning an excavation to provide a minimum of two (2) working days advance notice to owners of underground facilities. Everyone who owns or operates underground facilities is required to mark or "clear" the locations of those lines within 2 working days.
New Mexico law also provides for stiff penalties - including possible fines - for anyone who fails to notify underground facility owners about an excavation if the excavation results in an accident causing major property damage, injuries, or loss of life.
Make one call to New Mexico 811 (NM811) and they will notify their members of each planned excavation that can affect underground facilities.
For more information, please contact NM811 by dialing 811.
